Introduction

TMA/HUM is a device that allows TMA measurements to be taken in a water vapour environment with a constant relative humidity. TMA is measured at a constant water vapour partial pressure in TMA/HUM, giving a complete picture of the sample’s expansion and shrinkage as a function of water vapour partial pressure.

The actual sintering conditions can be carried out in a laboratory-based setting, especially when sintering ceramics in a water vapour atmosphere.

TMA measurements at a fixed temperature while altering the relative humidity are used to calculate the swelling ratio in relation to the relative humidity that is effective for evaluating the sample’s swelling property.

The humidity generator (HUM-1) creates a water vapour containing a humidity controlled gas that is introduced to the room using N2 as a base gas.

The TMA is fitted with an unique electric furnace that maintains a constant temperature via a circulator to prevent condensation even in high water vapour concentration environments, and can make measurements at a maximum of 85°C and 90% RH. The humidity sensor with feedback control maintains a constant humidity level for longer observations. The user can modify the relative humidity in each step of the temperature programme since the relative humidity settings in TMA are linked with the temperature programme.
